Windelzeit / Rosemarie Dütschler / Katharina Gapin, Amriswil, Thurgau

Rosemarie Dütschler (centre) founded Windelzeit in 2012 and has since advised many parents on cloth diapering. Katharina Gapin (right) did the cloth diaper school training in Switzerland and supports Rosemarie in advising, shipping online orders and selling in the shop. Both have enjoyed diapering their children with cloth nappies and would go for cloth nappies again anytime! Daniela Sturzenegger (left) has also done the counsellor training of the cloth diaper school and additionally the Nappy-change course. She is taking a break at the moment because of another job, but is actually also part of the team.

Wie bist du zur Stoffwindel gekommen?

Rosemarie: I knew the concept from friends and tried my way through different systems after the birth of my first child. Since then, the enthusiasm has not stopped.

Katharina: I come from a "cloth diaper family", so it was obvious to use cloth nappies for my own children. I was encouraged by my midwife.

Was ist deine Lieblingswindel?

Rosemarie: I have always loved All In One nappies, but I also like many other models. It has to be easy to use and combine well with "diaper-free".

Katharina: I find folded nappies with wool overpants simply beautiful and all-round natural.

Was ist der lustigste Stoffwindelmythos?

Rosemarie: Many people think that it is more time-consuming. I can't confirm that. On the contrary: I found disposable nappies that did not hold the stool and the subsequent complete bathing and changing of the child much more time-consuming. With cloth nappies, this problem took care of itself.

Katharina: Children with cloth nappies have their mobility disturbed by their thick nappy bottoms, they turn later... I have experienced this differently.

Dein grösster Fail?

Rosemarie: We were invited to a wedding and I combined our daughter's chic festive outfit with a thin pocket nappy. She was allowed to drink apple spritzer for a change and enjoyed it thoroughly. The outfit was wet in no time. The second one a little later too...

Katharina: Putting pocket nappies with low absorbency on a baby who drinks a lot...

Wo ist bei dir Nachhaltigkeit sonst noch anzutreffen?

Rosemarie: Privately, I try to avoid unnecessary purchases and buy things of high quality, which then last much longer. In the shop, we pay attention to sustainable production conditions in everything we offer.

Katharina: I only try to buy what is really needed. If possible, I repair things or pass on things that we no longer need.

Dein tollster Trick rund ums Wickeln?

Rosemarie: With OneSize nappies, be sure to use the smallest possible length setting. Often the nappies are set far too high, then slip down onto the hips and leak down the legs.

Katharina: I can only recommend "Sitzbad" and "Windelbalsam" from Bahnhofapotheke Kempten for sore babies' bottoms.

Was interessiert dich abseits der Welt der Stoffwindeln?

Rosemarie: I have always been a horse girl and love to spend my free time at the stables. And I love to sing!

Katharina: I like to go swimming or hiking, love good books, music and of course my children.

Was ist deine liebste Windelkombi für die Nacht?

Rosemarie: Fitted nappies with wool covers, a classic and absolutely tried and tested.

Katharina: Definitely fitted nappies with wool covers.

Hast du noch weitere Titel neben «Stoffwindelberaterin»?

Rosemarie: Originally an Anglicist, now a mummy and owner of Windelzeit

Katharina: Nurse and alternative practitioner. I also studied primary school teaching up to the first state examination.

Ein Highlight in deiner Tätigkeit als Stoffwindelberaterin?

Rosemarie: I love the moments with the little babies, especially now that my two are already bigger. And I am always very happy when I can inspire a new family to cloth diapering. Especially when the second or third child of this family is still being diapered with cloth nappies.

Katharina: I am always happy when I get feedback that cloth diapering is working well. Overall, I find it incredibly nice to accompany (expectant) parents with cloth diapering, sometimes over a longer period of time. To see how children who were there for the first time as very small babies suddenly run into the shop, don't need a nappy later on and then come back as a big brother or big sister...
