I found that the disposable nappies were really expensive. As we lived in a remote area with no car access when our first child was born, we would have had to carry the new nappies up to the chalet each time to bring the waste back down. And since someone gave me a free box full of knitted nappies, muslin nappies, liners, some old AIO nappies and woollen overpants, I even saved on the purchase costs. So the goal of low cost was achieved.
After 6 months, I still used disposable nappies from time to time, especially on the road and at night. The knitted nappy system is great overall, but our daughter hated changing nappies. Because the old AIOs were slowly disintegrating and no longer sealed, I bought some modern nappies to test them.

When our daughter was 11 months old, I learned about Topffit/Diaper Free. At first I thought it was an American craze to get babies dry as quickly as possible. But when I understood that it was about something completely different, my husband and I gradually took our daughter out of nappies. Thanks to the cloth nappies, I already knew our daughter's rhythm very well. With the gauze nappies, which didn't have a stay-dry layer, she complained very quickly when she was wet. And suddenly I realised that I didn't just have to wait for her to wet her nappy, but could offer her the potty beforehand.

So we potty-trained our first son from birth. I continued to use the knitted nappies for protection. But it soon became clear that this system was too cumbersome for frequent dressing and undressing. So I developed my own system and the flopi came on the market after my third birth. With each child I used fewer disposable nappies and then stopped using them altogether. With the last children, I even ended up using nappies only at night (because I wasn't fast enough to get them to the potty in the morning).

Wie bist du zur Stoffwindel gekommen?

Quite simply to save money.

Was ist deine Lieblingswindel?

Max&Meno's, GroVia for buttoning in inserts, Doujañ Poul-up, especially Ai2 systems and of course first and foremost the flopi as a nappy-free backup

Was ist der lustigste Stoffwindelmythos?

It's all about nostalgia and vintage.

Wo ist bei dir Nachhaltigkeit sonst noch anzutreffen?

I am a miserable collector and can (almost) throw nothing away. Surely everything can be reused in some way at some point! So a lot of things in our house are mended and always reused. My favourite thing is upcycling textiles of all kinds.

Dein tollster Trick rund ums Wickeln?

Before putting on a fresh nappy, always offer your child the opportunity to relieve himself using a potty, because it happens so often that the child wets himself again immediately after changing because he has not actually emptied his bladder completely.

Was interessiert dich abseits der Welt der Stoffwindeln?

Living away from the system in the greatest possible independence. Unschooling, permaculture, upcycling, handicrafts, Germanic healing, theology...

Was ist deine liebste Windelkombi für die Nacht?

For small babies, the flopi Ai2 and then later All-in-2 nappies with flaps in which you can easily place a prefold insert or gauze nappy.

Hast du noch weitere Titel neben «Stoffwindelberaterin»?

I'm not actually a cloth nappy consultant, but rather went "diaper-free" with my children.
I'm an all-round mum of six, originally a trained draughtswoman, now an entrepreneur with a sewing studio and online shop.

Ein Highlight in deiner Tätigkeit als Stoffwindelberaterin?

When I hear that a family not only avoids (disposable) nappies, but also wants their child to grow up free of school.
