Naturkind Beratung / Tamara Baumann, Detligen, Bern

My name is Tamara Baumann and I live with my family in Detligen, at the foot of the Frienisberg in the Bernese Seeland. After completing a commercial apprenticeship with further training in human resources, I trained as a cloth nappy advisor in November 2019. A year later, I completed further training to become a hello nappy specialist, and in April 2021, I completed further training to become a nappy change consultant.

I am a full time (and full blooded) mummy of three and work as a cloth nappy and stay-away consultant with my business Naturkind Consultancy. It is very important to me that our society regains access to more naturalness in everyday (family) life; with my self-employment I can start and support exactly at this point.

I like to fill my free time with activities in nature and in the garden or reading.

Wie bist du zur Stoffwindel gekommen?

With our first child and the mountains of disposable nappy waste that came with it, it was clear to me after just two weeks of being a threesome that we needed an alternative solution in terms of baby care. I was downright shocked at how much nappy waste was produced by such a small human. The internet quickly spat out cloth nappies as an alternative. Not so the nappy system and which nappies would suit our baby well. It took us another two months of research and, unfortunately, a few bad purchases before we were finally happy with cloth nappies.

Was ist deine Lieblingswindel?

There are now so many great suppliers that it is not possible for me to name a favourite nappy. I am a big fan of natural materials and therefore prefer wool nappies as overpants filled with a simple gauze nappy. A very simple and low-wash system. In addition, there are now some great Swiss labels that sew wool nappies, which I really appreciate and am happy to support.

Was ist der lustigste Stoffwindelmythos?

It's not really funny, but I'm always amazed at how disgusted and dismissive society is about issues related to excretion. In the end, excretion is just a natural process that affects everyone and can be approached with an appropriate naturalness. It doesn't mean that you have to roll around in your excretions....

Dein grösster Fail?

Clearly the bad purchases I made at the beginning because I didn't treat myself to a cloth diaper consultation. Even after hours of research on the internet, you don't get the important information and experience that a cloth diaper consultant brings.

Wo ist bei dir Nachhaltigkeit sonst noch anzutreffen?

In our everyday family life, sustainability is a topic everywhere. It goes from second-hand clothes for everyone to an almost waste-free bathroom and our own vegetable garden, to name just a few. I think it's important not to put too much pressure on yourself. It's better to start where you can easily bring about a change and then keep expanding rather than trying to turn the whole thing upside down. Many small steps add up to a big effect. For me, sustainability is also a lifelong process and cannot simply be implemented from one day to the next.

Dein tollster Trick rund ums Wickeln?

Does stopping count as a wrapping trick ;-)?

Was interessiert dich abseits der Welt der Stoffwindeln?

Decelerated and nature-loving motherhood/parenthood, our nature in general, our garden and self-care, pedagogical topics and needs-oriented education, being a woman, the female body and female empowerment.

Was ist deine liebste Windelkombi für die Nacht?

If you are keeping a child: keep nappy or simple woolen overpants with a gauze nappy and a nightgown.
If not stopping: Panty nappy and wool slip.
